Daimler Chrysler announced February 14th that its Chrysler division would be cutting 13,000 jobs, or 16 per cent of its workforce. Two-thousand workers in Canada are among 13,000 employees company-wide who will lose their jobs over the next three years. Canadian Auto Workers union president Buzz Hargrove said he'd like to see the federal government take action on what he sees as unfair trade practices by other nations, including Japan. (Under Chrysler's restructuring plan, 11,000 production workers -- including the two-thousand in Windsor and Brampton, Ontario -- would be eliminated over the three-year period.)
