Defense Minister Gordon O'Connor admitted he was wrong. He apologized to the House of Commons on March 19th for telling Parliament the Red Cross would monitor the treatment of Afghan detainees handed over by the Canadian military. In February, Canada signed a deal with the commission to monitor the health of detainees that Canadian troops hand over to the Afghan government. O'Connor came under fire over Canada's policy regarding the detainees. He said the International Committee of the Red Cross monitored their treatment. The ICRC said that wasn't the case.
