A combat photographer from CFB Gagetown became the 56th Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan. Master Corporal Darrell Jason Priede (preed) was killed May 30th, along with five Americans and a Briton, when their Chinook helicopter was shot down in volatile Helmand province. Brigadier-General Tim Grant, commander of Canadian forces in Afghanistan, offered condolences to friends and family. (The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. Reports suggested the chopper was hit with a rocket propelled grenade. )
