Group of Eight leaders meeting in Germany agreed on a plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2050. Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke about the deal at a June 7th news conference. (The language of the declaration fell short of an iron-clad commitment. It said the world's biggest emitters of greenhouse gases should "seriously consider" following the E-U, Canada and Japan in seeking to cut emissions in half by 2050.)
