Former advertising executive Jean Lafleur was sentenced to four years in prison. He was also ordered to pay back almost 1.6 million dollars for bilking the federal sponsorship program. The sentence was the harshest handed down for sponsorship-related fraud. Crown attorney Ann-Mary Beauchemin (BOO'-shu-meh) said Lafleur deserved what he got. (Lafleur had pleaded guilty to 28 counts of sponsorship-related fraud.)
