The Liberals were shut out of all three federal byelections held in Quebec. But Liberal leader Stephane Dion said his party got caught up in a wave of anti-separatist sentiment. And on September 17th he told reporters in Montreal, the Liberals would do better in the next general election. (The Bloc Quebecois took one of the byelections. The NDP won Montreal's Outremont riding while the Conservatives were victorious in Roberval-Lac-Saint-Jean, traditionally a Bloc Quebecois stronghold.)
