An Ontario judge acquitted the former national medical director of the Canadian Red Cross, three other doctors and a New Jersey pharmaceutical company linked to Canada's tainted-blood scandal. Thousands of Canadians were left infected with HIV or hepatitis C after they were given tainted-blood products. Victim James Kreppner was disappointed with the October 1st verdicts. (Doctor Roger Perrault had pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm for allegedly giving hemophilia patients an HIV-infected blood-clotting product in the 1980s and early 1990s.)
