Former prime minister Jean Chretien underwent emergency quadruple bypass surgery October 3rd at the Montreal Heart Institute. Just two days earlier, a friend had said Chretien was golfing with a heart specialist when he mentioned chest pains. Cardiologist Dr. Jean-Claude Tardif told a news conference that it was true the round of golf may have saved Chretien's life. (Chretien made a full recovery.)
