A girl who was 12 years old when she helped murder her parents and little brother in southern Alberta was sentenced November 8th to 10 years. It is the maximum allowed under federal law for someone that young. Her lawyer, Tim Foster, said his client was anxious to begin her rehabilitation. He added that it's important to remember she was just a child when the crimes were committed. (The girl, now 14-years-old, will spend four years in custody in a psychiatric institution and another four and a-half years under supervision in the community.)
