Brian Mulroney said he was sorry he ever accepted cash payments from German-Canadian arms dealer Karlheinz Schreiber. At a Commons ethics committee December 13th, the former Conservative prime minister was indignant, saying the biggest mistake of his life was his meeting with Schreiber. Mulroney acknowledged he received 300-thousand dollars in cash from Schreiber. But he says the second biggest mistake of his life was the act of receiving the cash in the first place. Mulroney flatly denied Schreiber's allegation that he agreed to accept the money for "future services" while still in office in 1993. And he told the committee he never received money related to Air Canada's purchase of Airbus aircraft.
