Canadian jazz great Oscar Peterson died December 23rd at his home in Mississauga, Ontario. Gene Lees, the author of a biography on Peterson, said he doesn't think there's ever been a pianist in jazz of the later generation who wasn't influenced by him. (Peterson died at age 82 of kidney failure. He recorded almost 200 albums and played alongside the greats of the jazz world, including Louis Armstrong, Count Basie and Nat King Cole.)
