Nortel announced on February 27th that it would he slashing some 21-hundred jobs after posting a loss of 844 million dollars in its fourth quarter. Company spokesman Mohammed Nakhooda said Canadian jobs would be among those to be cut. (Nortel also said it would be transferring about one-thousand jobs to higher growth and lower cost areas.)
