Residents of low-lying areas in western and southern New Brunswick were threatened last May by a rising St. John River. Hundreds of families registered with the Red Cross and evacuated their residences. Up to 13-hundred homes were threatened by the river, which at points looked like a sprawling lake. On May 2nd, Prime Minister Harper surveyed flooded areas of New Brunswick from a helicopter. Harper said federal and provincial agencies handled the situation well.
