The Canadian government had to rewrite parts of two drug laws after a BC Supreme Court judge ruled them unconstitutional in relation to a safe injection site in Vancouver. Justice Ian Pitfield also granted a constitutional exemption for the injection site. Mark Townsend, with the Portland Hotel Society, the group that runs the facility, said Pitfield decided it was a health and safety issue. (The facility -- where addicts go to shoot-up -- had been operating with a federal government exemption.)
