The doctor who was the City of Toronto medical officer of health throughout the SARS crisis died of cancer on June 2nd. Doctor Sheela Basrur became a trusted source of information to Ontarians during the outbreak in 2003. Doctor Bonnie Henry, an assistant medical officer of health in Toronto at that time, said people felt like they knew Basrur after seeing so much of her during the crisis. (Basrur eventually became Ontario's chief medical officer but resigned in December 2006 after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.)
