As aboriginal leaders looked on from the floor of the House of Commons, Prime Minister Stephen Harper made a historic apology June 11th for the treatment of children at Indian residential schools. Harper called it a sad chapter in our nation's history. (Phil Fontaine, the leader of the Assembly of First Nations, said with the apology offered to the survivors of native residential schools, the survival of the First Nations people in Canada had been affirmed forever.)
