A federal court quashed the Gomery Inquiry conclusions that former prime minister Jean Chretien and his top aide bore responsibility for the sponsorship scandal. Justice Max Teitelbaum ruled on June 27th that Gomery's inappropriate comments to the media throughout the hearings into the scandal betrayed bias against Chretien and his chief of staff, Jean Pelletier (PELL'-tyay). Gomery told The Canadian Press he did not agree with Teitelbaum. (Chretien said he saw the ruling as a total vindication.)
