The Ontario government agreed to pay Steven Truscott 6.5 million dollars for suffering a "miscarriage of justice" and living 48 years with the stigma of being wrongfully convicted of a rape and murder he did not commit. One of his lawyers, Marlys Edwardh, said Truscott and his wife Marlene were ready to put the ordeal behind them. (In 1959, when he was just 14, Truscott was sentenced to hang for the murder and rape of a 12-year-old girl.)
