Hundreds of riot police were deployed August 11th in North Montreal to confront demonstrators protesting the police shooting death of a man in the same neighborhood 24 hours earlier. Canadian Press reporter Andy Blatchford was on the streets and reported that cars and propane tanks had been set on fire, and stores had been vandalized and looted. (On August 10th, a police patrol in a park turned ugly when officers tried to arrest someone, and were surrounded by about 20 youths. Police say when some of the youths rushed the officers, one of the cops opened fire -- killing an 18-year-old man.)
