Erik Nielsen, a former deputy prime minister in Brian Mulroney's Conservative government and elder brother of comic Leslie Nielsen, died of a heart attack September 4th at his home in Kelowna, BC. Michael Lauder, a financial agent for the Conservative Party's riding in Whitehorse, said Nielsen felt strongly about the region he represented. (Nielsen won the Yukon's Progressive Conservative nomination in 1957 and never lost an election, holding his seat until resigning in 1987. He was 84.)
