A Canadian soldier was killed September 7th and seven others were injured in a roadside bomb explosion in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar. Sergeant Prescott Shipway, an infantryman with the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, based in Shilo, Manitoba, died after his armored vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. Brigadier-General Denis Thompson made the announcement from the Kandahar Airfield. (In 2006, Shipway was cited for his quick reaction during a roadside bomb attack in which he secured the area and helped save a fellow soldier's life.)
