Ford Motor Company announced plans September 10th to cut 500 jobs from its Oakville, Ontario plant. CAW president Ken Lewenza blamed the slumping US market for new vehicles. (Lewenza had called on the federal government to take steps to prop up Canada's faltering auto industry, but Prime Minister Stephen Harper said there wasn't much the federal government could do to stop job losses.)
