The Toronto stock market closed down by about 650 points on October 6th after plunging almost 12-hundred points at one point. Fred Ketchen, equity trading manager at Scotia Capital, blamed the volatility on a combination of "panicked" investors selling stocks and bargain hunters snatching up deals. (More than 100 billion dollars of stock value was wiped out in one day.)
