Canadians went to the polls on October 14th and elected a minority Conservative government. Meanwhile, the Liberals, under Stephane Dion, had one of the party's worst showings ever in a federal election. The Liberals garnered just 26.2 per cent of the popular vote, only four points ahead of the party's worst-ever result in 1867. Liberal Leader Stephane Dion said his party would cooperate with Prime Minister Stephen Harper to see that Canadians were protected from the economic "storm" sweeping the globe. He also said he wanted to see Canada continue to become stronger, and stand as a "beacon" for the world.
