Three Canadian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on December 5th. That brought to 100 the number of troops killed in the Afghan mission since 2002. Brigadier-General Denis Thompson wanted to draw attention away from numerical milestones and focus on the three men who gave their lives for their country. (The soldiers were riding in an armored vehicle while on patrol in the Arghandab district, west of Kandahar city, when they struck an improvised explosive device.)
