Charges were laid January 7th against Winston Blackmore, the leader of BC's controversial polygamous community of Bountiful. Attorney General Wally Oppal confirmed that Blackmore and another Bountiful leader, James Oler, were charged with practicing polygamy. Oppal said he didn't think the defense of religious freedom would stand. (Bountiful is where members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints practice multiple marriage.)
