On March 5th, the Ontario Court of Appeal overturned the murder conviction of Romeo Phillion in the 1967 stabbing death of an Ottawa firefighter. Phillion was elated. Phillion had spent 31 years in prison for the murder -- after first confessing but quickly recanting. (The appeal court said it could not grant the acquittal Phillion was seeking and instead ordered a new trial.)
