The EU voted May 5th to ban imported seal products from Canada. Sealers in Canada were disappointed by the decision. Shannon Lewis of the Northeast Coast Sealers Co-operative Society called it unfortunate that emotion overcame logic in the debate in Europe on the seal hunt. (Animal rights groups hailed the move as an important step toward ending Canada's commercial seal hunt.)
