Private Sébastien Courcy, 26, from 2nd Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment, based in Quebec City, was killed July 16th when he fell while conducting operations in the Panjwaii district of Afghanistan. The head of Canadian forces in the war-torn country, Brigadier General Jonathan Vance, said security operations sometimes have a heavy cost. (Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued a statement saying Courcy's "tragic passing illustrates some of the risks that the selfless men and women of the Canadian Forces face every day in carrying out their duties.")
