More than a 100 small planes took off from airports around the Vancouver area July 17th. It marked the beginning of a 10-day, cross-Canada journey to celebrate the centennial of the first powered flight in Canada. Organizer John Lovelace said he wanted something to recognize the importance of flying to Canada's development. (The planes headed to Baddeck, Nova Scotia, where the first powered flight in Canada took place on February 23rd, 1909.)
