The Bank of Canada declared the recession essentially over in Canada on July 23rd and projected the economy would bounce back at least twice as strongly as in the United States. Finance Minister Jim Flaherty chimed in to a growing chorus of voices predicting Canada's economy was on the rebound. Flaherty said he believed Canada was headed in the right direction. Flaherty pointed to "relatively strong" consumer confidence, good home sales numbers and "some improvement" in retail sales as indicators the economy was on an upswing.
