A Roman Catholic diocese in Nova Scotia apologized August 7th for the sexual abuse of young children by priests decades earlier. The Antigonish diocese reached a settlement in a class-action lawsuit brought by one of the victims. Ron Martin, whose brother David committed suicide years after he was assaulted by a priest, said he was pleased with the 13 million dollar fund. (In the suit, Martin claimed the diocese failed to protect children in its care when it became aware of the abuse. The settlement is intended to compensate anyone who was sexually assaulted by a priest of the Catholic Episcopal Corporation of Antigonish since January 1st, 1950.)
