On October 14th, a Federal Court Judge officially declared null and void a security certificate against a Montreal man accused of having terrorist ties. The 68-page ruling not only quashed the security certificate, but also stated the federal government did not have the right to appeal. Adil Charkaoui said he was elated. (Charkaoui also asked the court to reserve his right to seek compensation for what he claimed were violations of his constitutional rights. But the judge dismissed that demand, saying the married father of three would have to initiate separate proceedings.)
