The Olympic torch relay through Toronto was thrown off schedule December 17th when about 100 anti-Olympic protesters blocked the street. Officials who were taking the torch by convoy to Toronto's City Hall were forced to change the route to get past the protest. Canada's first female astronaut, Roberta Bondar, was among the celebrities who got to carry the torch before the protest disrupted the route. Bondar was cheered on by dozens of students from Roberta Bondar Public School in Brampton, Ontario who gathered to see their idol. (Other famous torchbearers included Olympic rower Marnie McBean, ballet dancer Karen Kain and father and son filmmakers Ivan and Jason Reitman.)
