Constable Eric Czapnik (ZAP'-nik), 51, an Ottawa police officer, was stabbed to death December 29th outside Ottawa Hospital. It was the first police death in the line of duty in Ottawa since 1983. Ottawa Police Chief Vern White said many would be affected by the devastating loss. (A Mountie under suspension was arrested in the attack.)
