The Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince was largely destroyed by a powerful magnitude 7.3 earthquake. The January 12th quake was the strongest to hit the impoverished Caribbean nation in more than 200 years. In Montreal, Carine Guidicelli of the Canadian Centre for Studies and International Co-Operation said she received some chilling initial accounts from Port-au-Prince. (Over 200-thousand people were killed and 1.5 million people displaced by the earthquake.)
