Preview Clip

Thousands of people attended rallies in towns and cities across Canada on January 23rd to speak out against Prime Minister Stephen Harper's decision to suspend Parliament until March. At a rally in Halifax, the crowd of about 500 chanted anti-Harper slogans outside the legislature. Retiree Hazel Hanson said Parliament should have been leading the charge on a variety of important matters -- not shutting down. (About two-thousand people gathered on Parliament Hill where NDP leader Jack Layton called on Harper to open the doors. Other protests were held in Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto.)
