A 39-year-old Nunavut man was convicted of first-degree murder on March 10th in the killing of RCMP Constable Doug Scott. Ping Kolola was sentenced the next day to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 25 years. Scott's family welcomed the verdict but his mother Marla said no verdict could restore her son's life. (Scott was killed on November 5th, 2007, in the tiny Nunavut hamlet Kimmirut (KIHM'-ih-root) on Baffin Island while responding alone to a call about a suspected drunken driver.)
