An Edmonton-based soldier died March 20th -- two weeks after he was mortally injured in an IED explosion while on foot patrol in Afghanistan. Twenty-one-year-old Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick passed away in an Edmonton hospital surrounded by family and friends. Comrades remembered Fitzpatrick as a skilled marksman who always spoke his mind. Corporal Cole Prier (PRY'-uhr) also said his friend "Fitzie" never gave up -- even on long, hot marches. (Hundreds of people packed one of Edmonton's largest churches on March 27th for Fizpatrick's funeral, which was opened to the public at the request of his family.)
