Veterans and dignitaries gathered at the National War Memorial in Ottawa to mark the 93rd anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge and the death of the last known veteran of the First World War. Prime Minister Harper said with the passing of John Babcock in February, we lost our last living link to an admirable generation of Canadians. Harper said the men and women who fought in The First World War risked their lives so that other nations could live in the same peace and freedom that had taken such deep root in Canada.
