A sky-high glass ceiling was shattered May 6th with a woman taking command of the renowned Snowbirds aerobatics team. Lieutenant-Colonel Maryse (mah-REESE') Carmichael of Quebec City was the first woman to lead the squadron in its 40-year history. As she prepared to take over her new duties, the 39-year-old mother of two said there's a lot of pride in being a member of the squadron -- and gender is irrelevant. (In 2000, Carmichael was selected to pilot Snowbird 3 -- becoming the first and only woman to ever fly with the team.)
