A family of four was killed late on May 10th after a landslide swept away their country home in St-Jude, a village about 75 kilometers east of Montreal. The landslide left a crater more than four times the size of a football field. The bodies of Richard Prefontaine, Line Charbonneau and their nine and 12-year-old daughters were found in the basement the next day, where it was thought they had gathered to watch a Montreal Canadiens playoff game. Michel Dore (door-EH'), Quebec's emergency management coordinator, said the family was likely watching television together when the landslide hit. (The incident forced two dozen people to temporarily evacuate their homes.)
