On May 14th, just days before he was scheduled to return home, 24-year-old Private Kevin McKay (Mick-EYE') of Richmond Hill, Ontario died in an IED blast while on foot patrol in the Panjwaii district, about 15 kilometers southwest of Kandahar City. Captain Michael Hughes, McKay's platoon commander, said he was a dependable friend who put others before himself.
