The Supreme Court of Canada rejected serial killer Robert Pickton's bid for a new trial. The top court was unanimous in ruling July 30th that Pickton's right to a fair trial was not affected by the judge's final instructions to the jury, although they split 6-3 on the reasons. At a news conference in Vancouver, Deputy Chief Constable Doug Lepard (lah-PARD') offered an emotional apology to the victims' families. (Pickton will stay behind bars for 25 years with no chance of parole.)
