The "MV Sun Sea" carrying 490 Tamil migrants was intercepted August 12th off Vancouver Island and boarded by Canadians from a flotilla of vessels. It was towed to dock the next day at CFB Esquimalt near Victoria. Federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews (TAVES) said the government would consider ways to toughen laws in order to prevent human smuggling. (A similar ship arrived in October, 2009 carrying 76 Tamils, who then made refugee claims.)
