Calgarians turned out in huge numbers October18th, and in the end elected a 38-year-old business professor as their new mayor. Naheed Nenshi (NAH'-hed NEN'-shee) prevailed in a tight three-way race and became the first Muslim to be elected mayor of a major Canadian city. Nenshi said it was a new era. (Early in the campaign Nenshi was running a distant third, but used Twitter and social networking to build a strong base of support.)
