Tory candidate and former Ontario Provincial Police commissioner Julian Fantino won a slim victory in the federal byelection held in Vaughan, ending the Liberals' 22-year reign in the north Toronto suburb. After the November 29th win, Fantino celebrated with supporters. (Though they lost a Toronto bastion, the Liberals scored a surprising upset over the NDP in Winnipeg North. In the third contest, the Tories easily hung on to the Manitoba riding of Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette.)
