Canada turned over command of Kandahar's Provincial Reconstruction Team to the United States on January 12th. It was the first in a series of handovers as Canada wound up its combat mission in southern Afghanistan. Tim Martin, Canada's senior diplomat in Kandahar, said the Americans would build on Canada's hard work. (Provincial reconstruction teams are a mix of diplomats, aid workers, police and soldiers who focus primarily on development.)
