Green party Leader Elizabeth May became the party's first elected MP. She defeated Conservative Gary Lunn in the BC riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands. May acknowledged she'd have a tough time being heard as the lone Green MP, especially in a Conservative government. But she said she'd work hard to encourage other parties to work with her. (It was May's third attempt to land a seat in Parliament. She ran unsuccessfully in Nova Scotia during the 2008 federal election, and she lost a byelection in Ontario in 2007.)
