Wallace McCain, who helped transform a New Brunswick french-fry plant into the McCain frozen foods empire, died May 13th of pancreatic cancer. He was 81. Former New Brunswick premier Frank McKenna met McCain before he took office and the pair became life-long friends. (McCain had a falling out with his brother Harrison and was forced out of McCain Foods in the 1990's. He later teamed up with the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan to take over Maple Leaf Foods.)
